World Maths Day in Primary 5

25th Mar 2026

To celebrate World Maths Day, P5 took on a range of practical and problem‑solving activities focused on 3D shape investigation and symmetry.

3D Shape Construction
Using pipe cleaners and modelling materials, pupils worked in teams to build different 3D shapes. They counted and labelled edges, faces, and vertices, compared features, and discussed which structures were most stable and why some were more challenging to construct.

Symmetry Challenge With P1
P5 also became designers and teachers by creating half‑completed symmetrical drawings for Primary 1 to finish. This meaningful cross‑age task let them apply their understanding of symmetry while designing fun, engaging images for younger pupils.

P1 then completed the other halves using mirrors and careful observation, producing colourful and accurate symmetrical drawings that demonstrated their growing mathematical skills.

This shared learning experience highlighted teamwork, leadership, and creativity across the school—a brilliant way to celebrate World Maths Day together.
