Trip to Edinburgh

20th Apr 2016

On Monday 11th April Primary 7 left school at 5.30am with children from Donaghey & Ballytrea Primary Schools for a busy four days in Scotland!

A smooth crossing was enjoyed by all and later in the day a visit was made to Glasgow Science Centre where the pupils participated in many interactive activities.  King's Manor Hotel, Edinburgh, was the next destination for the now weary travellers where they enjoyed a delicious meal.  To round off the evening Mr Wright decided a leisurely stroll was needed.

Tuesday morning saw an 8am breakfast before departure to Blair Drummond Safari Park.  The coach drove through some of the enclosures where some angry lions & cheeky monkeys were observed.  The children enjoyed some free time in groups around the Safari Park where they could view other animals, visit the shop, play in the adventure playground, go on the dodgems, paddle boats or zip-line.  After meeting up for lunch the children went to the sea-lion show where Lola the sea-lion entertained a captivated audience.

An afternoon visit was made to Wonderland Model Shop in Edinburgh where some children made purchases of model machinery whilst others were just happy to look.  A return was made to King's Manor Hotel for dinner followed by an evening visit to the cinema.

Following breakfast on Wednesday morning a visit was made to the Royal Yacht Britannia.  Some children enjoyed the experience and viewed many of the rooms with interest.  Time was then given to explore Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre.  Finally the females were getting to do some proper shopping!

The next destination was Edinburgh Castle, making it just in time for the one o'clock gun.  Other parts of the Castle were explored including the dungeons.  After leaving the Castle the children walked to Princes Mall to get lunch & to purchase some souvenirs and presents.  Next time was spent at Saint James Centre before returning to the coach.  A final evening meal was enjoyed at the Hotel before a game of ten-pin bowling.

Thursday morning saw the travellers leave King's Manor Hotel at 9am to begin their journey home.  A stop was made at Silverburn Shopping Centre, Glasgow, to purchase lunch and to browse a few more shops.  From there the journey was made to Cairnryan for the sailing home.  Exploration of the ferry was made, the shop visited and some snacks purchased.  Another calm sailing was enjoyed before docking in Belfast.

The tired travellers continued on the last leg of their journey to Orritor where they arrived safely at 7pm to be gladly welcomed home by parents and siblings.  An enjoyable trip was had by all!
