PSG @ Orritor Primary 2017/18

26th Aug 2018

The Parents Support Group (PSG) along with all your support have worked very hard through another school year. Each event benefits ALL the children within the school and hopefully anyone who comes along has a great time with us. Without everyone's very generous efforts and donations we would not be able to support the school and children each year.

We had a team of very committed parents, friends and one of our teachers who agreed to run the Belfast Marathon in two teams. The children chose and voted for the two team names - The Red Runners and Run Orritor Run! This group not only raised money but trained very hard for the event. With everyone's fundraising efforts we were able to purchase the community defibrillator (outside the school door) and also renew the playground markings. Iris from the Braeside Restaurant and shop also very kindly donated some money that was raised by her at the Cookstown 100 weekend.

We were able to access a grant for use by the school through the Health Alliance Agency. Part of this grant was used to invite Paula McIntyre Celebrity Chef to come and hold a cookery demonstration night. Along side this we, with the help of families from the school, published a Family Favourites Recipe Book. We sold out, and the evening was a great success! (p.s. the recipes are delicious!)

All the children had the chance to try out a few new workshops this year that the PSG helped to organise to come to school. A couple of these were Fun with Drums and Gymnastics.

Elfridges Christmas shop was another hit with the children and created a great buzz and interest in the school at this festive time.

Our annual Coffee evening and Craft Fair was our Charity event of the school year and we supported a local charity called 'Headway'. We know that there is an ex-pupil of the school being able to make great use of Headway at the moment and he stopped into the school to express his thanks for the support given by the school, families and friends.

The crafts people that attended were very complimentary of our school and the togetherness was noticed. This is something we ALL should be very proud of!

With some more of this years fundraising, we also purchased some sports equipment and kit for the children when playing for the schools teams. We are grateful to Ferson Brothers, local building contractors, for sponsoring our sports kit.

The Nursery was in need of a new piece of media equipment and Miss Thompson has put it to very good use.

The children ended the school term with a fab day on the Inflatables... each class got a couple of goes and the weather really made the day perfect. A wee treat for the children after working so hard all year....

The events for this incoming school year have been mapped out and are in the process of being arranged.

If you think you have any other ideas or could give a hand to the PSG, come along to our meetings.

Everyone is welcome!
