Proud Moment for Orritor: Girls Qualify for McCloy Cup Finals
A huge well done to our girls’ hockey team who have qualified for the McCloy Cup at Stormont!
The girls started the tournament brilliantly with two early wins, beating Bush Primary School and Donaghmore Primary School. They then faced Cookstown PS and, after an end‑to‑end game, finished with a hard‑fought 0–0 draw.
Their final group‑stage match was against Moneymore PS, with both teams knowing that a win would secure a place in the semi‑finals. After a tense battle, the girls came out on top with a 1–0 victory, setting up a semi‑final against Killyman PS.
The semi‑final was another fantastic performance. Orritor dominated the early stages and scored the all‑important goal. Killyman pushed hard to get back into the game, but the girls stood strong and secured their place in the final.
In the final, they met Cookstown Primary School once again. After another tense and exciting match, the game ended 0–0, meaning it would be decided by run‑ins. The girls were superb under pressure and won in sudden death — nail‑biting to say the least!
They have now qualified for the McCloy Cup Finals at Stormont on 14th April.
Well done to all the girls — you made your school incredibly proud.
A huge thank you to the parents for all your support, to Ulster Hockey for organising and umpiring the tournament, and to Mrs McGowanfor her outstanding coaching and encouragement.
Finally, well done to Cookstown Primary School, who have also qualified for the McCloy Finals.
