🐟 Trip Recap: P5 Explore the Orritor Hatchery
14th May 2026
Primary Five had a fantastic visit to the Orritor Fish Hatchery, where they dived deep into the world of the Ballinderry River. The day was centered on the river’s unique wildlife and the vital importance of keeping our local waterways clean and healthy.
The students were thrilled by the hands-on experience, getting up close and personal with:
-
Dollaghan Trout: Unique to the Lough Neagh system.
-
Freshwater Pearl Mussels: Incredible creatures that can live for over 100 years!
-
River Invertebrates: The "canaries in the coal mine" for water quality.
-
Freshwater Crayfish: The river's very own mini-lobsters.
A massive thank you to Frank, Jillian, Peter, and Rachel for providing such an engaging and brilliant day of learning!
