Making play dough in Nursery

7th Oct 2024

Today the Nursery children worked together to make new play dough. We had to take it in turns to add the ingredients and stir the mixture. We decided we would make orange play dough and had to think which two colours of food colouring we would mix to make orange; a little bit of red and a lot of yellow gave the perfect result.

Mrs Ferry took the mixture to the kitchen to add hot water and give it a final stir. When she brought it back we had to close our eyes. We couldn’t believe it when we opened them. Our very own play dough made by the Nursery children. We couldn’t believe that a little bit of hot water could turn our dry mixture into soft play dough. We can’t wait to see what creations are made with our lovely orange dough.

If you would like to have a go at making play dough the ingredients are 4 cups of flour, 2 cups of salt, 8 tea spoons of cream of tarter, half a cup of cooking oil and up to 4 cups of hot water. Mix all the dry ingredients together and add the oil. Then carefully add the hot water to it looks like a dough. You can add food colouring or things like peppermint flavouring oil / cinnamon to add to the sensory experience. Have fun making your own dough. Don’t forget to tell us how it works out and send us your fabulous creations!
