Length Explorers: Hands-on Maths Investigations in Primary Five
Primary Five have been busy investigating length in all sorts of practical ways.
They explored centimetres, metres, and millimetres through hands-on measuring activities. Pupils learned how to use a ruler correctly to measure with accuracy, practiced rounding to the nearest centimetre and metre, and converted between centimetres and metres to solve real-life problems.
One highlight was a puzzle challenge: Who in Primary Five would fit perfectly into a bed measuring 140 cm? The class measured everyone’s height, then organised the data under clear headings to work out who would fit, who might need a stretch, and who would be a little squashed.
The activity sparked plenty of laughter and teamwork, turning maths into a lively problem solving adventure! Measuring turned into detective work and solving problems felt more like a game than doing sums!
