Fun at the Folk Park
P3 had a fabulous day at the Ulster American Folk Park and dressed up to look the part!
They experienced life in 1845 at Castletown National School, being taught by Master Mulligan.
He was very impressed by their answers and the participation of the children!
They also found out about Thomas Mellon who emigrated to America with his family when he was only 5 years old.
Before travelling to America they watched how to spin and weave wool and also saw some tools the blacksmith would have made.
Thankfully Lucy’s tooth had fallen out before we arrived at the forge as he offered to pull out any more loose teeth!
The ship was dark and a bit scary so the children were glad to arrive safely in America and went straight to the shop to post letters home to say they had arrived.
Finally the children got to spend their own money on souvenirs in the gift shop.
Thanks to all staff and helpers who helped make this a very memorable trip.
