Update 28 April

28th Apr 2020

We hope you are all keeping safe and coping with the 'home schooling'. We hope the children are working at the tasks set by the teachers, but also enjoying their time at home with you and the opportunity to play and relax outside.

Key Worker's children

Please continue to let me know  by email what days you need a week in advance if possible so I can plan staff attendance for those days.

Despite speculation in the media, I have heard nothing official in regard to school resuming before September. The DE say they have no plan in place for schools to resume before this date. There are genuine problems with implementing social distancing measures in schools - both inside and outside the classroom. I estimate about 7-10 children (maximum) could be in a classroom, but then there are other practical issues to consider such as sharing resources (pencils, books, keyboards etc.), moving around school in corridors, extended cleaning and handwashing procedures, procedures at break and lunch times, and of course arrival and departure times when parents would be congregating at the school gates. Will there be meals? Will there be buses? We don't know as there is no plan at the moment. We also have to consider the implications for the Health and Wellbeing of staff and their families, and indeed what staff will be available if schools resume.

We are currently awaiting what plans they have for the Annual Report process in June.

Thank you to the P7 parents who sent us a lovely collage of all the children showing us what they've been up to during 'lockdown' - it was lovely to see everyone again.

Online resources that may assist families and pupils during Covid-19

The Dept of Education have a collated a range of online resources which are intended to be helpful to families and pupils during the Covid-19 situation.

Stay safe everyone!
